Cambria Bioship

The Cambria is an advanced bioship built in secrecy by a subsidiary of Avatar Klusterkorp. One of the purposes was scientific curiosity, but the spacecraft had to be useful: very fast to travel through the Deep Beyond, capable of self-repair for reliability away from technical facilities, and preferably able to visit low-gravity worlds. But the main goal is to be some day able to literarly grow spacecraft for a relatively low cost.

The Cambria was designed to be fast rather than robust, with exceptional regenerative capabilities which should compensate for its relative structural weakness. The spacecraft's nervous system includes a large brain spread in the internal structure of the ship, and implanted with cybernetic systems. This bioship is highly intelligent and fully sapient.

Externally, this spacecraft looks somewhat like a triangular trilobite, with thick scales (grown on a nanocomposite armour frame) and a long thin tail, designed to hold the fusion reactor away from the organs. It usually has a slimy-looking brownish colour, but it tends to change at will or with the mood of the ship.

The cost is high, but it is expected to drop a lot if one day biotechnology allows such a creature to be grown industrially, or even to self-reproduce. For the moment, 3 to 4 of these ships are believed to exist, all are slightly different models.

The Cambria has a food requirement of 41 man-days per day.

Note: This spacecraft was designed to be usable for characters, as opposed to the Nadezhda (SSS21) which is more like a curiosity. The Cambria is more sophisticated and may be ahead of the canon TS technology.
